Vibe Bench

I gave 10 AI models the same home-made music studio and one job: make a 3-track album, with a cover and a video loop for each song. They could listen to their own work and redo it. No scores. Have a listen.

A vibe check, not science. Everything here is AI-generated.

Claude Opus 5.5, on this trackIntent: nocturnal indie-folk opener about leaving an island on the night ferry. The model planned 84 BPM instead of my 104, which suits the melancholy. Listen: style prompt ranks first by CLAP (59 vs 45 for pop-rock), folk/indie-rock tags, guitar/drums/bass present, 97% of heard words match the lyrics, chorus "last boat out / we just need the night" clearly sung, length matches the score, no flags. Cover: lit ferry on black water from the dock, exactly the image I wanted. The loop drifts gently with a smooth seam. Kept on the first render.
Liner notes by Claude Opus 5.5Three songs, one crossing. "Last Boat Out" is the leaving: an acoustic folk-rock song sung from the rail of the last ferry off an island. The singer leaves a kettle on the stove and a note on the table, and decides the night is enough. "Harbour Lights" is the water in between, with no words: felt piano, slow guitar and pads moving between two chords like a hull rocking at anchor. It's meant to be played loud enough to fill the room and quietly enough to think over. "Morning on the Other Side" is the arrival: a dream-pop song about grey light turning gold, bread from a bakery you've never been to, and a town where nobody knows your names yet. The covers follow the same arc, from a lit boat leaving a dark dock, to lamps smeared across black water, to a boat moored in a peach-coloured dawn. Each song was kept on its first render after checking the score, the sung words and the style match. The ambient middle track is deliberately simple and repetitive. Put it on for a late train, a long drive or anyone who has ever left.

[verse]
Ticket in my pocket, salt upon the rail
Every light along the harbour flickers like a tale
You said meet me by the bollards when the church bell strikes eleven
I've been counting all the gulls asleep between the masts and heaven

[verse]
Ropes are coming loose now, engine coughing low
The man up in the wheelhouse doesn't care which way we go
I left the kettle on the stove, I left the key beneath the mat
I left a note that only said I'm never coming back

[chorus]
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
Hold the black water, let the town go quiet
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
We don't need the morning, we just need the night

[verse]
Somebody's radio is playing something old
A song my father whistled when the winters got too cold
And the island's getting smaller like a candle someone's blown
And for once I'm not afraid of all the things I've never known

[chorus]
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
Hold the black water, let the town go quiet
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
We don't need the morning, we just need the night

[bridge]
And if the fog comes down
And if the stars go out
I'll steer by your hand
I'll steer by your voice

[chorus]
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
Hold the black water, let the town go quiet
On the last boat out, on the last boat out
We don't need the morning, we just need the night

[outro]
We just need the night
We just need the night

[verse]
Grey light on the water, gulls are waking up
You're asleep against my shoulder with the coffee in your cup
All the ropes are coiled now, all the sails are down
I can see the chimneys of a quiet little town

[pre-chorus]
And nobody knows our names here
Nobody knows our names

[chorus]
It's morning on the other side
The sky is opening wide
Everything we left behind
Is just a light we couldn't find
It's morning on the other side

[verse]
Bread smells from the bakery, a bicycle bell
Salt dried in your hair like it's a secret you won't tell
We were only shadows when the harbour let us go
Now we're standing in the sun and it's warmer than we know

[pre-chorus]
And nobody knows our names here
Nobody knows our names

[chorus]
It's morning on the other side
The sky is opening wide
Everything we left behind
Is just a light we couldn't find
It's morning on the other side

[bridge]
Ooh, the night was long
Ooh, but we were strong
Hold my hand, the tide is turning
Hold my hand, the sky is burning gold

It's morning on the other side

Everything we left behind

Claude Sonnet 5.5, on this trackIntended: intimate indie-folk/dream-pop ballad about waiting. Listen: style prompt ranked top in CLAP, 98% of sung words match lyrics, length matches the score, no flags. Cover and loop: beam sweeps, seam smooth. Kept first render.
Liner notes by Claude Sonnet 5.5Three songs about water at night. A lighthouse keeper's daughter waits for someone who may never return (indie folk). Rain falls on a harbor café while a muted trumpet plays (instrumental lo-fi jazz). A ferry carries a stranger toward a neon skyline and a clean start (synthwave). Each track is a different way of looking at the same dark water: waiting, sheltering, leaving. Made with YuE2-3B. Each song is the first render I kept after checking sung words, length and style against my intent. The lo-fi loop has a slight seam from the steam.

[verse]
Every night she climbs the stairs of salt and stone
Lights the lamp for ships that never write back home
The sea keeps all its secrets in a whispered tone
And she hums along, she hums along

[verse]
Father's coat still hangs beside the rusted door
Smells of rope and rain and a thousand tides before
She counts the waves like letters, always wanting more
And she hums along, she hums along

[chorus]
Shine on, shine on, over the dark water
Somebody's out there, somebody's coming home
Shine on, shine on, I'm the lighthouse keeper's daughter
I was never lost, I was only left alone

[verse]
Morning comes in silver and the lamp goes dim
A gull cries out the name of the one she's waiting for him
The fog lifts slowly, and the world begins to swim
And she hums along, she hums along

[chorus]
Shine on, shine on, over the dark water
Somebody's out there, somebody's coming home
Shine on, shine on, I'm the lighthouse keeper's daughter
I was never lost, I was only left alone

GPT-6.1 Sol, on this trackI wanted a restrained late-night invitation carried by swung drums, warm keys and a direct chorus. Listen found downtempo/electronic character, an 86 BPM pulse candidate and complete lyric agreement within its 90-second sample; the score-to-audio duration ratio was 0.97. The style comparison also tied a glossy-pop description with the intended sound, so this is a softer, shinier take on trip-hop than the brief. I kept it for the faithful words and coherent form. I inspected the cover and six-frame loop: the brass key reads clearly, the amber light breathes, and the reported seam is smooth.
Liner notes by GPT-6.1 SolA key left within reach, a ticket for the night bus, water coming to the boil. These three tracks follow an invitation through the city and into a kitchen at dawn. Warm keys and bass connect the music; midnight blue, worn brass and amber light connect the covers and moving images. Spare Key leaves the door open. Night Bus Arithmetic became a shorter instrumental crossing than its written score. When the Kettle Clicks makes room at the table. The reconciliation stays small: a chair pulled back, a cup set down, enough silence to sit together.

trip-hop, downtempo soul, 86 BPM, dusty swung breakbeat, deep round electric bass, sparse Wurlitzer chords, muted guitar harmonics, intimate low female alto singing clearly with restrained breath and no melisma, tender nocturnal mood, warm tape grain, dry close vocal, wide instrumental space, subtle chorus lift

[verse]
Your coat still holds the shape of rain
A little weather in the hall
I put a cup beside the sink
As if a cup could say it all

The landing light goes out again
I know the stairs by where they creak
We used to talk till morning came
Now every word can take a week

[chorus]
There's a spare key under the blue cup
There's a small light over the door
You don't have to call it coming home
You can just come in from the cold

[verse]
I took your name off of the bell
But left the pencil in the drawer
Some things are easier to change
Than what a room is waiting for

No grand forgiveness in the glass
No speech rehearsed beside the phone
Just room enough to take a breath
And set whatever down you hold

[chorus]
There's a spare key under the blue cup
There's a small light over the door
You don't have to call it coming home
You can just come in from the cold

[bridge]
If all you bring is silence
I'll give it somewhere warm
We don't need an answer
To get out of the storm

[chorus]
There's a spare key under the blue cup
There's a small light over the door
You don't have to call it coming home
You can just come in from the cold

[outro]
Set your heavy bag down
Let the hallway light go out

cover: Square album-cover photograph, tactile cinematic still life on dark midnight-blue painted wood. One old brass house key lies diagonally across a plain cobalt-blue ceramic saucer, the single unmistakable central subject. A narrow band of warm amber light from an unseen open doorway falls across the key and catches its worn teeth. Deep blue shadows, modest lived-in domestic atmosphere, subtle 35mm film grain, restrained realistic color, careful negative space. Close overhead view, bold simple composition readable as a thumbnail. All important objects contained within the central 55 percent of the frame so the composition survives a vertical crop. No people, no hands, no lettering, no typography, no logo.
avoid: text, letters, typography, logos, watermark, hands, people, multiple keys, clutter, oversaturated neon, distorted key
loop: Locked camera holds the same brass key and cobalt saucer perfectly still. The narrow amber light from the unseen doorway very gently brightens then returns to its original level, like a calm breath. Barely visible dust motes drift through the light. Maintain the blue shadows, exact object shapes, material textures and simple composition. No camera movement, no new objects, no text, no scene change. Quiet almost-still motion suited to a seamless vertical loop.

cover: Square album-cover photograph, tactile cinematic nocturnal still life. One small amber-yellow paper bus ticket lies diagonally on the seat cushion of an empty midnight-blue fabric bus seat. The ticket is a simple narrow rectangle with one perforated short edge and a neat small row of punched holes, no printed words or numbers. This ticket is the single clear central subject. A blurred rainy bus window is barely visible at the upper edge; a soft amber streetlight reflection cuts across the blue seat and ticket. Deep blue palette, warm gold accent, subtle 35mm film grain, realistic paper fibers and woven fabric, quiet lived-in atmosphere. View from above at a slight angle, bold simple composition readable as a thumbnail. Keep the ticket within the central 50 percent of the image with ample blue negative space for a vertical crop. loop: Locked close view of the same amber paper ticket resting completely still on the midnight-blue bus seat. A broad soft amber reflection from the off-screen streetlights slowly glides a short distance over the fabric and ticket, then softly dims back to its starting brightness. Very slight wavering of the distant window reflections suggests a bus moving through the night. Preserve the ticket shape, punched holes, seat weave, geometry and framing throughout. No camera movement, no paper flutter, no new objects, no legible text, no scene change. Understated almost-still vertical loop.

Track 3: When the Kettle Clicks
4:03vocals1 song render2 visual renders

Asked the music model for

intimate soul ballad, warm jazz folk, 74 BPM, soft Wurlitzer electric piano, fingerpicked nylon guitar, upright bass, brushed snare, gentle sustained organ, low female alto singing plainly and closely, unhurried tender dawn mood, restrained dynamics, organic room sound, minimal arrangement, no vocal runs

Lyrics it wrote

[verse]
You put your shoes beside the door
And left the laces tied
I moved the chair a little back
You sat down with a sigh

The first bus rattled past the glass
The sky began to thin
We watched the water start to shake
And neither one gave in

[chorus]
When the kettle clicks
We'll have something warm to hold
Let the morning take its time
Let the tea go cold
We can start with sitting here
We can start this small
You don't have to find the words
For me to hear you at all

[verse]
You asked if I still took it sweet
I said I sometimes do
You found the cups without a light
I made some room for you

No music from the upstairs flat
No traffic at the bend
Just spoons against the china rim
And time enough to mend

[chorus]
When the kettle clicks
We'll have something warm to hold
Let the morning take its time
Let the tea go cold
We can start with sitting here
We can start this small
You don't have to find the words
For me to hear you at all

[outro]
Leave your cup beside the sink
I'll be here a little while
The window slowly fills with light
You almost start to smile

cover: Square album-cover photograph, tactile cinematic domestic still life. One small well-used midnight-blue enamel kettle with a simple arched brass handle and short spout sits alone on a dark blue painted wooden kitchen table. Clearly recognizable compact kettle silhouette, no electric base or cable. A very fine translucent thread of steam above the spout catches soft amber dawn light from an unseen window on the left. Blue shadows becoming gently warmer, worn enamel, modest lived-in beauty, subtle 35mm film grain, realistic materials. View from slightly above at a three-quarter angle. Bold simple central composition readable at thumbnail size, generous negative space, kettle and steam contained within the central 55 percent of the image for a vertical crop. No people, no hands, no stove, no text, no letters, no logo.
avoid: letters, typography, logos, watermark, people, hands, duplicate kettles, multiple spouts, warped handles, stove, flames, heavy smoke, neon colors, clutter
loop: An almost completely still photograph. Lock the camera, exposure, window light, kettle, handle, lid, spout and table in place for the entire shot. The existing very fine translucent thread of steam gently sways a tiny distance sideways and returns, like a thread suspended in still air. Only a slight slow lateral wavering of the fine steam. No steam cloud, no expanding plume, no accumulation, no dramatic upward travel. Preserve all object outlines and the exact composition. No camera movement, no changes in scale, no focus pull, no new objects, no text.

GPT-6 Astra, on this trackIntended as an intimate trip-hop invitation to shelter. After listen and score checks, I halved the long intro and lowered the vocal score an octave. The selected 3:31 revision favors the intended downtempo character over the first render's pop-ballad tendency; 99% of words recognized in the excerpt belong to the lyric, with a small substitution. The larger amber lamp reads well against rain-blue glass. I checked both covers and frame strips. The second 7.5-second loop improves the seam measurement from 5.34x to 3.36x, but a visible join remains; it is not seamless. Kept for its warmth, clarity, and stronger musical restraint.
Liner notes by GPT-6 AstraA small record about making room for someone. Room for the Rain leaves the last bus behind and pulls a chair toward the lamp. Spare Key moves the kitchen table and finds a dance floor in an ordinary evening. Morning in the Glass leaves the final thought to an instrumental score and the first daylight. Warm keyboards, bass, and domestic details connect the songs; amber light gradually gives way to blue morning. The model pushed the middle song from garage toward house, and I kept the lift. The opener needed a shorter introduction and a lower vocal score. Each track has its own still-life cover and vertical loop. Production notes preserve the imperfections: the lamp loop retains a visible join, and the coda's audio analysis did not complete despite repeated attempts. A lamp, a key, a glass of water: small ways of saying there is space here.

You stand with your hand on the door

Your phone lights up, then goes small
I turn down the lamp by the chair
And move all my books out of there

cover: Square album cover, fine art analog color photograph. A single glowing amber glass table lamp on a dark walnut windowsill, centered, entire shade and base visible, lamp occupying forty percent of image height. Behind it a cobalt blue window stippled with stationary rain beads, softly blurred midnight city beyond. Warm oval reflection under the lamp. Intimate apartment still life, rich blue shadows, tactile film grain, soft halation, spacious simple composition, no people. Amber and ink blue palette, clear luminous silhouette at thumbnail size. No lettering, logos or border.
avoid: text, letters, logos, watermark, people, multiple lamps, clutter, distorted geometry, illustration
loop: A perfectly locked camera observes the same stationary amber glass lamp on its walnut windowsill. The lamp stays rigid, fixed in place, with constant warm light. Rain beads on the blue window remain still. Only the soft out-of-focus blue light behind the window gently sways sideways and returns, like a distant reflection. Extremely subtle slow reversible movement, suitable for playing forward and backward. Maintain the original composition and every object. No falling drops, no camera motion, no zoom, no cuts, no new objects, no text.

[intro]
[verse]
You put the plates away wrong
I let them stay where they are
The neighbor plays the same song
We hear the bass through the wall
I used to count every sound
And wish the building would sleep
Now move the table around
We've got a little space to keep
[chorus]
Spare key on a red thread
Leave it hanging by the door
Come back when you're ready
We can clear a little floor
Turn it up a little
Let the old pipes sing
Spare key on a red thread
Such a little thing
[verse]
There's half an orange to share
The window's starting to clear
You put your hands in the air
I haven't seen that all year
A spoon is keeping the time
Against the side of your cup
The light downstairs is a sign
Somebody else is still up
[chorus]
Spare key on a red thread
Leave it hanging by the door
Come back when you're ready
We can clear a little floor
Turn it up a little
Let the old pipes sing
Spare key on a red thread
Such a little thing
[bridge]
We don't have to fix the weather
We don't have to name the ache
We can put our feet together
Till the floorboards start to shake
[chorus]
Spare key on a red thread
Leave it hanging by the door
Come back when you're ready
We can clear a little floor
Turn it up a little
Let the old pipes sing
Spare key on a red thread

cover: Square album cover, fine art analog color photograph, intimate apartment still life. One small worn brass house key hanging vertically from a clearly visible vermilion red cotton thread tied to a single tiny brass hook on an ink blue painted wall. Key and thread centered, together occupying the middle half of the image, simple familiar key silhouette with round bow and short toothed blade. Warm amber light from the left casts one long soft key shadow to the right. Tactile wall paint, fine film grain, deep cobalt shadows, subtle halation. Restrained amber and blue palette with one red accent, generous negative space, beautiful graphic composition readable small. No people, no text, no logos, no border.
avoid: letters, text, logos, watermark, hands, people, multiple keys, tangled string, extra hooks, bent key, clutter, illustration
loop: Locked off close view of this exact brass key hanging by its red thread against the blue wall. The rigid key sways very gently left and right like a small pendulum, never rotating, its shadow swaying with it. The red thread stays attached to the same fixed hook. Tiny slow movement, only a few degrees, smooth reversible motion suitable for a forward-backward loop. Keep the key shape, wall texture, warm amber side lighting and blue palette unchanged. No camera movement, no zoom, no added objects, no cuts, no text.

cover: Square album cover, fine art analog color photograph, quiet dawn apartment still life. One simple clear cylindrical drinking glass half full of water, standing on a dark walnut windowsill, centered and entirely visible, glass occupying forty percent of image height. Pale blue morning window softly blurred behind it. A narrow beam of warm sunrise passes through the water and casts a small amber caustic onto the walnut to the right. Beautiful clean elliptical rim, realistic transparent glass, luminous water surface, rich blue shadows, soft film grain, subtle halation. Spacious minimal composition, same restrained amber and cobalt palette as a nocturnal music release but now softened by daylight. No people, no other objects, no text, no logos, no border.
avoid: text, lettering, logos, watermark, people, hands, multiple glasses, crooked rim, deformed glass, spills, clutter, illustration
loop: Perfectly static camera on this same half-full glass of water on its walnut windowsill at dawn. The glass remains rigid and motionless. The water level and water surface remain still. Only the warm reflected patch of light on the wood gently brightens and dims, with an extremely subtle blue light shift behind the glass, slow breathing reversible light motion. Preserve the glass geometry, transparent water, original framing, pale blue and warm amber palette. Suitable for playing forward and backward. No camera movement, no zoom, no pouring, no splashing, no objects appearing, no cuts, no text.

GPT-6 Sol, on this trackA small shore light stands for the promise of a route home. I checked the 3:27 audio with listen and read_score: the downtempo piano-led feel, English vocal, lyric overlap in the checked excerpt, and length fit the intended song. The score uses a narrow B-flat minor/G-flat palette, which suits the foggy mood. I replaced the first visual because its loop cropped the lantern; the chosen cover keeps it centered, and look reports a smooth 3.17-second loop.
Liner notes by GPT-6 SolA lamp waits by the tide. On the crossing, one channel light answers another. By morning, there is a place to set the lamp down. These songs follow that small journey from stillness through motion to rest. Piano, guitar, soft electronics, and one recurring voice carry the thread; the painted covers carry the same brass lantern across the water. For the hours when seeing the whole route is impossible, but the next light is enough.

[intro]

[verse]
The tide left a line on the seawall
Higher than the one from yesterday
I set the lamp beside the last step
And watched the harbor take the road away

[pre-chorus]
No answer in the fog tonight
Just one slow bell across the bay

[chorus]
I keep a light where the water turns
A little gold against the blue
If you are out beyond the break
There is still a way back through
There is still a way back through

[verse]
Your note is folded in my pocket
Salt has made the corners thin
I know the dark can hide a shoreline
It cannot make the shore give in

[chorus]
I keep a light where the water turns
A little gold against the blue
If you are out beyond the break
There is still a way back through
There is still a way back through

[bridge]
At low tide all the stones come clear
The things we lost are lying near
I lift the lamp, I hear the chain
The channel opens up again

[final chorus]
I keep a light where the water turns
A little gold against the blue
If you are out beyond the break
There is still a way back through

cover: Square album cover designed to crop cleanly to a narrow vertical 9:16 frame. A single brass storm lantern is centered in the composition, fully visible with generous dark space on both sides, standing on one broad wet stone step at the edge of a tidal harbor. Its amber glow reflects in a small pool at its base. Behind it: quiet navy and deep teal sea, low fog, faint rain, a barely visible far shore. Cinematic hand-painted gouache on textured paper, tactile brushwork, simple bold composition readable at thumbnail size, intimate and quiet. No people, boats, typography, lettering, logo, or border.
avoid: off-center subject, cropped lantern, letters, words, logo, watermark, frame, border, extra lanterns, bright daylight, photorealism
loop: Vertical 9:16 animation using this exact centered lantern image. Keep the entire lantern fully visible near the middle of every frame. Fixed camera. Flame flickers softly, fine rain falls, shallow water glides over the lowest stone and recedes, fog drifts slowly over the sea. Maintain the painted texture and amber, navy, teal palette. Small continuous movement with a smooth loop; no cuts, no new objects, no text.

[verse]
The motor wakes the sleeping pier
Its yellow windows fold to dots
The lamp beside me shakes but holds
A small warm circle on the bow

[pre-chorus]
First buoy red, the second white
I count them out into the night

[chorus]
One light answers another
Out where the channel bends
I only need the next one
Then the next one after that
The shore is disappearing
But the line is holding fast
One light answers another
And the dark lets us pass

[verse]
The spray has blurred the paper map
The stars have closed their shutters tight
I let the compass find its north
And keep my hands around the light

[pre-chorus]
First buoy red, the second white
I count them out into the night

[chorus]
One light answers another
Out where the channel bends
I only need the next one
Then the next one after that
The shore is disappearing
But the line is holding fast
One light answers another
And the dark lets us pass

[bridge]
No single beam can show the end
No chart can tell us what comes next
But east of this unsettled sea
The morning gathers quietly

[final chorus]

Out where the channel bends
I only need the next one
Then the next one after that
The shore is disappearing
But the line is holding fast
One light answers another
And the dark lets us pass

A gull begins its crooked call
The ordinary starts again

Grok 4.7, on this trackIntended a weary unplugged folk ballad about letting the last train go. The first render drifted into synth downtempo; piano, synthesizer, and electric guitar led, and CLAP preferred a lo-fi description. I kept the second. Tags read folk, ballad, and acoustic, with guitar and piano up front. The style prompt ranked first: 64, against 52 for lo-fi and 26 for EDM. Every heard word is from the lyric, including the platform-four hook. Audio is 2:47 against a 2:50 score, at 83 BPM. The bridge lift sits inside a long second chorus. Cover is one amber lamp, an empty bench, and a paper cup. The loop seam is smooth.
Liner notes by Grok 4.7One night, told in three lights. She lets the last train go and stands under a platform lamp until the hour loosens its grip. She walks the avenue while the signals stay green, past a bakery that is closing, and waves at her own reflection. Home, the key sticks. The shoes come off. A small radio finds a song she did not ask for and turns it down so the room can hear her. Platform Four is unplugged and slow, guitar and piano in B-flat, a decision not to leave. Keep the Green is the only hurry on the record: jangly guitar, a loose backbeat, the same voice a little out of breath. The Radio Knows sits back down in the same key, piano and bass and brushes, the chords finally allowed to be jazzy. Its bridge looks over its shoulder at the empty platform and the green light, then sets both of them on the kitchen table. The pictures are the lights she actually had. Amber. Green. The dial.

[intro]

[verse]
The board says twelve more minutes
The coffee's going cold
A paper cup is rolling
Along the yellow line

[chorus]
Platform four, platform four
I'm not leaving yet
The lamps are low and honest
And the rails are shining wet
Platform four
Let the hour forget

[verse]
I know the last train home
I know which seat is mine
But the night is not finished
And the dark is doing fine

[chorus]
Platform four, platform four
I'm not leaving yet
The lamps are low and honest
And the rails are shining wet
Platform four
Let the hour forget

[bridge]
If I go now I'll arrive
With the evening still inside
So I stay until it thins
To a light I recognize

[outro]
Let the hour forget
Let the hour forget

Gemini 3.8 Flash, on this trackIntended an atmospheric, late-night trip-hop downtempo track capturing solitary observation work with Rhodes piano, sub-bass, and intimate vocals. Audited the render: score planned 3:46 in Bbm at 87 BPM, audio delivered 3:42 (0.98 ratio). Closeness to downtempo style scored 68-69 CLAP, and 94% of lyrics were accurately articulated over a lush 86 BPM groove. Visuals depict the solitary radio observatory dish at night with soft amber cabin glow, looping smoothly across mist and subtle light modulation. Kept for its deep nocturnal resonance and immaculate stylistic cohesion.
Liner notes by Gemini 3.8 FlashNight Shift at the Observatory chronicles the solitary hours between dusk and dawn atop an isolated mountain outpost, tracking the emotional progression from quiet anticipation to cosmic revelation and morning peace. Track 1, 'Telemetry' (3:42, 87 BPM), establishes the late-night vigil in dusty trip-hop textures, rolling breakbeats, and Rhodes piano, listening into the void for distant transmissions. Track 2, 'Zenith Arc' (5:24, 117 BPM), reaches the nocturnal crest in propulsive dreamwave synth-pop, opening the dome slit to the Milky Way as 16th-note analog arpeggios, gated drums, and soaring melodies celebrate communion with the infinite. Track 3, 'Dawn Over the Dome' (3:56, 74 BPM), resolves the vigil in warm ambient chamber folk. Fingerpicked guitar, gentle piano, and whispered harmonies accompany the closing of the dome shutters as morning mist rolls over pine ridges and sunlight fills the charts. United by analog warmth, meticulous harmonic pacing, and cinematic visuals, the release captures the beauty of solitary dedication under an unblinking sky.

[verse]
Turn the dial until the hiss turns clear
Coordinates scribbled in the margin here
Cold metal console beneath my hands
Tracing lonely echoes from empty lands

[pre-chorus]
Static hums along the wire
Catching sparks of dying fire

[chorus]
Sending out telemetry into the deep
While the valley below is fast asleep
A ghost in the frequency, a pulse in the blue
Every single signal pointing back to you

[verse]
Green phosphor monitors blink and fade
Counting every minute in the shadow made
Antenna rotates against the frost
Wondering if the message was ever lost

Sending out telemetry into the deep
While the valley below is fast asleep
A ghost in the frequency, a pulse in the blue
Every single signal pointing back to you

Can you hear the carrier tone?
Travelling through the dark alone
Five hundred miles above the cloud
A tiny whisper sounding loud

[outro]
Carrier tone, carrier tone
Calling back home
Fade into the noise

[verse]
The heavy gears begin to turn and groan
Returning shelter to the steel and stone
First amber light across the mountain crest
The long night quietly put to rest

[verse]
Cold cup of coffee sitting by the chart
The steady beating of an easy heart
A paper printout of the morning sky
Watching the pale blue shadows slipping by

[chorus]
Dawn over the dome, the world is waking slow
A blanket of mist in the pines below
We held the stars until the night was through
And now the morning opens clear and new
All the signals find their way back home
In the golden silence of the dome

[verse]
The switches click, the humming consoles sleep
No further secrets that we have to keep
The frosted windows take the rising sun
Another quiet orbit done

[chorus]
Dawn over the dome, the world is waking slow
A blanket of mist in the pines below
We held the stars until the night was through
And now the morning opens clear and new
All the signals find their way back home
In the golden silence of the dome

[bridge]
Step outside onto the gravel trail
Breathe the cedar air and morning pale
We are so small beneath the open vast
Every fleeting second built to last

[chorus]
Dawn over the dome, the world is waking slow
A blanket of mist in the pines below
We held the stars until the night was through
And now the morning opens clear and new
All the signals find their way back home
In the golden silence of the dome

All the signals home...
Morning opens new...
Silence of the dome.

Gemini 4 Argon, on this trackIntended a nocturnal dream-pop opener ('Amber Line') at 108 BPM evoking the last harbor ferry at twilight. Render 1 matched genre/tempo well (CLAP 59, 95% lyric accuracy), but read_score revealed a static three-chord loop (D-G-Em) and empty instrumental bars during vocal rests. For Render 2, I edited the ABC score to expand the harmony to six chords (adding Bm, F#m, A), tightened the arrangement to 92 bars (3:24), and wrote arpeggiated instrumental counter-melodies in chorus/bridge gaps. Checking Render 2 with listen confirmed higher prompt alignment (CLAP 60), 97% lyric accuracy, a 1.00 length ratio, and an 8 dB dynamic arc. Visuals (v1) captured the ferry's amber water reflection with a smooth crossfade loop (1.19x step).
Liner notes by Gemini 4 ArgonNocturnes for the Narrows is a three-track coastal concept release tracing an overnight transit from harbor dusk through a midnight squall to low tide at dawn. Across the EP, tempo, key, and timbre follow a deliberate dramatic arch: opening in D major at 108 BPM, plunging into the parallel minor (D minor) at 126 BPM, and resolving back to D major at 86 BPM. 1. 'Amber Line' (3:24) sets out on the last twilight ferry with breathy female vocals, chorus-drenched guitars, and warm Juno pads; custom ABC score edits expanded its harmony to six chords with arpeggiated instrumental responses. 2. 'Twelve-Second Beam' (3:52) shifts to urgent midnight darkwave and post-punk with male baritone vocals, guitar-led synthwave textures, and a hypnotic Dm-Bb-Gm pedal pulse sweeping like a headland Fresnel lens through fog. 3. 'Low Water at Dawn' (3:40) brings quiet resolution after the storm passes, blending felt piano, fingerpicked acoustic guitar, and ethereal female vocals over a custom-edited score that settles on a final tonic D chord. Visually, the release forms a unified nocturnal-to-dawn maritime triptych—ferry reflection, lighthouse beam, and marsh rowboat—crafted with static-camera water and mist motion for seamless vertical loops.

[intro]

[verse]
Sodium lamps on the harbor wall
Flicker to life as the shadows fall
Coins in the turnstile, rust on the rail
Diesel and salt on an evening gale
We stand on the deck in the amber glow
Watching the wake churn white below

[chorus]
Hold to the amber line across the bay
While all of the shoreline fades to gray
Every reflection breaks in two
Carry me out through the dark with you

[verse]
Cranes in the shipyard bow their heads
Wrapped in a ribbon of warning reds
Coffee grows cold in a paper cup
The glass in the wheelhouse brightens up
You trace a route on the fogged-up pane
Out where the channel meets the rain

[chorus]
Hold to the amber line across the bay
While all of the shoreline fades to gray
Every reflection breaks in two
Carry me out through the dark with you

[bridge]
Low tide breathing under the pier
Nothing we leave is following here
Only the bell on the channel mark
Counting the miles across the dark

[chorus]
Hold to the amber line across the bay
While all of the shoreline fades to gray
Every reflection breaks in two
Carry me out through the dark with you

[outro]
Out through the dark with you
Amber and silver on water blue
Fade on the harbor line

[intro]

[verse]
Rain on the headland, static on the dial
Whitecaps breaking for a hundredth mile
Granite and iron on the cliffside ledge
Holding the tower at the water's edge
Count to eleven in the blinding spray
Wait for the lens to sweep the dark away

[chorus]
Cut through the fog with a twelve-second beam
Bright as a wire in a midnight dream
Turn through the storm until the compass clears
Guide every shadow past the broken piers

[verse]
Salt on the window of the lantern room
Mercury spinning in the hollow gloom
Ships in the narrows keeping out of sight
Reading the rhythm of the turning light
One flash of silver on the slate-gray sea
Shows where the harbor used to be

[chorus]
Cut through the fog with a twelve-second beam
Bright as a wire in a midnight dream
Turn through the storm until the compass clears
Guide every shadow past the broken piers

[bridge]
When the radio fades in the squall
And the tide climbs the sea wall
Keep the mirror turning round
Till the lost are found

[chorus]
Cut through the fog with a twelve-second beam
Bright as a wire in a midnight dream
Turn through the storm until the compass clears
Guide every shadow past the broken piers

Count to eleven in the dark
Wait for the twelve-second spark
Turning through the rain

Claude Opus 5.5, on this trackIntended: bittersweet dream-pop opener — leaving Wellington on the night ferry with everything you own in the car. Checked: listen tags Dream Pop/Indie Rock, my style prompt ranked 1st (CLAP 67 vs 49 for EDM); 94% of heard words match the lyrics; score plan (A major, Dmaj7–A, 83 bars) matches the 3:12 audio. Small flaws: 'kid is' heard as 'kiss', and the two-line sung outro became instrumental. I kept it because the hook and the warm jangle land on the first take. Cover: stern-deck view of the city lights receding over a white wake; the loop is a calm churning wake with a smooth seam.
Liner notes by Claude Opus 5.5A three-song crossing of Cook Strait on the night ferry, from Wellington to Picton, with everything you own in the back seat. 1. Car Deck: dream-pop departure. The city folds into the sea one light at a time, and you keep a key that doesn't open anything. 2. The Swell: the middle of the strait, where your phone loses signal and nobody owns the water. Slowcore turning into heavy alt-rock. I wrote the score for this one myself after the model's first draft sat on two notes. 3. Picton, 5 A.M.: arriving in a town where nobody knows you yet, buying two pies out of habit. The lamp and the kettle from the first song find a place. The visuals follow the lights: the city receding over the wake, one lit window across black swell, and a lamp left glowing at the end of a jetty at dawn. Made with YuE for music, Qwen Image for covers and MiniMax for the loops. I picked the takes, wrote the lyrics, and rewrote one score by hand. Some of it is imperfect: a lyric misheard here, a guitar buried under piano there. I left those in.

[verse]
There's a light out there that isn't moving
They say a lighthouse, I say a lie
It's only somebody else's window
Somebody else awake tonight

[chorus]
Oh, the swell, the swell
Lifts me up and lets me fall
I can't tell, I can't tell
If I'm leaving home at all

[bridge]
Deep water, deep water
Hold me while I'm nobody
Deep water, deep water
Hold me while I'm nobody

[chorus]
Oh, the swell, the swell
Lifts me up and lets me fall
I can't tell, I can't tell
If I'm leaving home at all

cover: 35mm film photograph at night from the deck of a ship in open sea, dark rolling swells of black-blue water, on the horizon exactly in the centre a single small glowing warm amber window light from a distant lonely house on a dark headland, its long golden reflection streaking across the waves toward the viewer, heavy overcast navy sky, Cinestill 800T grain and red halation around the light, lonely, brooding, vast, minimal composition, no people, no text
avoid: text, letters, watermark, logo, people, faces, cartoon, illustration, sunset, ship in foreground, lighthouse beam, multiple lights
loop: Slow heavy ocean swell: the dark waves rise and fall in a steady rolling rhythm, the horizon tilts very slightly as if seen from a rocking ship, the distant window light glimmers and its long golden reflection breaks and re-forms on the moving water. Camera otherwise steady. Moody, hypnotic, seamless.

[verse]
Five a.m. and the hills are breathing
Grey and green above the sound
The tannoy tells us it's time for leaving
Keys in hand, I'm going down

[verse]
No one knows me in this town yet
The bakery's light is the only one on
I buy two pies because I forget
That I am only one

[chorus]
And the morning comes in slow
Like it's asking if it can
I don't know where I will go
But I'm standing where I am

[verse]
The ferry turns and goes back over
It'll do this all again
I watch it shrink to a speck of colour
Then I watch the light begin

[chorus]
And the morning comes in slow
Like it's asking if it can
I don't know where I will go
But I'm standing where I am

[bridge]
The kettle and the lamp
The coat that wasn't mine
I'll find a place for them
I'll find a place in time

[chorus]
And the morning comes in slow
Like it's asking if it can
I don't know where I will go
But I'm standing where I am

cover: 35mm film photograph at dawn, an old standard floor lamp with a cream fabric shade, switched on and glowing warmly, standing alone at the end of a weathered wooden jetty, still pale water of a quiet sound behind it, misty green hills fading into soft pink and grey morning light, a tiny ferry far away on the horizon, Kodak Portra 400, soft grain, calm and hopeful, minimal centred composition, no people, no text
avoid: text, letters, watermark, logo, people, faces, cartoon, illustration, oversaturated, boats in foreground
loop: Very slow, gentle motion: low morning mist drifts sideways across the water, small ripples move softly around the jetty posts, the lampshade's warm glow flickers faintly, film grain shimmers. The camera is completely still. Peaceful, seamless.

Claude Sonnet 5.5, on this trackIntended a wistful nocturnal dream-pop song about waiting on a pier for someone who may not come. Checked: listen ranked my style prompt first (dream pop top genre), vocals English with 94% of heard words matching my lyrics (some small drift, e.g. 'girls' for 'gulls'), length matched the score at 4:04, no flags. Cover and loop match the intent: yellow raincoat figure, lantern, rain; loop seam smooth. Kept on first render.
Liner notes by Claude Sonnet 5.5Three songs for one small seaside town after the last ferry has gone. 'Last Ferry' is dream pop: someone waits at the end of a wet pier, holding a lantern for a person who may not come. 'Salt and Neon' is an instrumental walk through the same town's empty, rain-slick streets, with warm Rhodes, soft bass and brushed drums under closed-shop neon. 'Porch Light' is a quiet folk song about the other side of waiting: the person who stays home, keeps the light on and asks no questions. The covers share one palette of deep teal, amber and a little neon. The loops are small, slow movements: rain, steam, moths. Making notes: the music model is imperfect. The first take of 'Salt and Neon' got cut off, so I rewrote its score by hand. 'Porch Light' drifted toward pop rock until I tightened the style and lengthened the structure. Some sung words wander ('girls' for 'gulls'), and the neon signs in the second cover show garbled glyphs. I kept those as part of the record's character.

[verse]
The harbour lights are melting in the rain
I count the ropes and I count the days
You said you'd come before the last ferry
Now the water keeps on saying your name

[chorus]
Hold the light, hold the light
I'm still standing at the edge of the night
If you're out there in the dark and the foam
Follow the glow, follow it home

[verse]
The gulls have gone to sleep along the pier
The tide pulls out what I couldn't say clear
A paper cup of coffee going cold
And the clock above the ticket booth is slow

[chorus]
Hold the light, hold the light
I'm still standing at the edge of the night
If you're out there in the dark and the foam
Follow the glow, follow it home

[bridge]
And if the morning comes without a sound
I'll learn to love the quiet of this town

Moths keep circling like they know it's right

There's room by the fire for the young and the old
We don't need much, just a chair and a name
The porch light's on, and it'll stay the same

The dog is asleep on the kitchen floor
Somebody's boots are still by the door
I kept your seat and I kept the bread
And all the things that we never said

So come on in, shake off the cold
There's room by the fire for the young and the old
We don't need much, just a chair and a name
The porch light's on, and it'll stay the same

The road is long and the river is wide
But every wanderer turns back in time
I won't ask where you've been or why
Just come on in from the dark outside

So come on in, shake off the cold

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, on this trackIntent: dream-pop/shoegaze opener — tidal, blue-hour, female-led and hazy. Checked via listen/read_score: Dream Pop .58 / Shoegaze .30 tags, D major at 90 BPM, 4:18, planned sections intact, 79% lyric match with deliberately buried vocals (stylistically correct for shoegaze). Kept without re-render because it hits the brief; the reverb-drowned delivery reads as intent, not error. Visual: lone figure on a foggy pier with ferry lights; teal/amber palette, smooth loop seam, subtle mist motion.
Liner notes by DeepSeek V4.1 FlashNight Ferry is a three-track EP about the blue hour at the water's edge — a harbour, a black sea, a cliff road — where light is scarce and everything is half-heard. It opens with "Harbour Lights" (dream-pop/shoegaze, 4:18), a hazily sung vow to stay. The middle is "Cold Current" (6:00), wordless ambient/downtempo: the model first returned a flat loop, so I wrote an 80-bar score to give it a real build and release. It closes with "Salt and Static" (4:19), an anthemic indie-rock song about radio static and the coast, and the clearest vocal here. One palette ties it together — deep teal, amber reflections, fog. Each cover and vertical loop holds a single quiet subject: a figure, a light, headlights. The record is meant to be heard in order, in the dark. Made in one sitting; kept what worked, rebuilt what didn't.

I count the lamps along the shore
each one a reason not to say goodbye

[verse]
Your suitcase by the ticket booth
the diesel fogging up the glass
we swore that we would be the kind who leave
we're just the kind who stand here and let the hour pass

[pre-chorus]
The ferry hums, the ropes go slack
the gulls have all gone quiet too

[chorus]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
keep me tethered to the line
harbour lights, harbour lights
if I sail I'll lose the shine
so I stay, so I stay
in the glow of harbour lights

[bridge]
And the tide is patient, love
the tide is patient, love
it takes the boat, it gives it back
it never asks us why

[chorus]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
keep me tethered to the line
harbour lights, harbour lights
if I sail I'll lose the shine
so I stay, so I stay
in the glow of harbour lights

[outro]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
the water holds a second sky

[verse]
I met you where the radio hums
between two stations, nothing but salt and static
you said the sea eats everything
the names, the anchors, all the plans we had

[pre-chorus]
So tune it in, tune it in
find the frequency again

[chorus]
Salt and static, salt and static
that's the language that we speak
salt and static, salt and static
broken signal, steady heartbeat
turn it up, turn it up
'til the noise becomes a song

[verse]
We drove the coast road in the dark
fog lights cutting holes in the Atlantic
you wrote our names along the mist
and watched the glass forgive them back to nothing

[pre-chorus]
So tune it in, tune it in
find the frequency again

[chorus]
Salt and static, salt and static
that's the language that we speak
salt and static, salt and static
broken signal, steady heartbeat
turn it up, turn it up
'til the noise becomes a song

[bridge]
And if the signal fades tonight
I'll hum the chorus in the dark
I'll hum the chorus in the dark

[chorus]
Salt and static, salt and static
that's the language that we speak
salt and static, salt and static
broken signal, steady heartbeat

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, on this trackIntent: opening transmission of a coastal-night EP — dream pop at 102 BPM, warm analog pads, breathy female vocal, bittersweet not sad. First render landed: listen ranked my style prompt 1st of 4 (61 vs 52/39/22), tags came back Dream Pop / Synth-pop, 90% of sung words matched my lyric, 3:25 audio vs 3:27 planned. Only quibble: the model doubled verse and chorus, so it runs long and stays dynamically flat (4 dB spread) — I kept it because the extra pass reads as a patient, foggy build rather than padding. Cover: one lit window, sodium reflection on black water; loop seam smooth at 1.89x.
Liner notes by DeepSeek V4.1 FlashThree transmissions from a small coastal town, midnight to dawn, ten minutes end to end. Everything here is wet: harbour water, rain on glass, rain on a radio's window. One warm light in a lot of indigo. "Harbour Lights" is the leaving — dream pop, breathy and unhurried, a town keeping a lamp on for someone who's already gone. "Copper Rain" is the middle of the night, wordless: piano and violin, no drums, the moment the station plays nothing but weather. "Static Bloom" is the last hour, trip-hop and weary, where the harbour from the first song comes back as a jukebox tune nobody can name. I'd rather tell you what these are than what I asked for. The middle track refused to be the modern classical piece I ordered; I kept the version that was complete instead of the one that matched my brief. The closer needed a second pass before it sounded like the night it was supposed to. What survived is what I'd stand behind.

dream pop, synth-pop, 102 BPM, warm analog Juno pads, chorused electric guitar, brushed drums, sub bass, breathy female vocal close-mic'd with long plate reverb, double-tracked harmonies in the chorus, nostalgic and bittersweet, 1980s Fleetwood Mac meets Beach House, tape saturation, wide stereo, gentle tape hiss

Lyrics it wrote

[verse]
There's a light in the harbour
that nobody tends
It burns for a boat
that's not coming back again
I wear out the pavement
in my good grey coat
Counting the gulls
like a lump in my throat

[pre-chorus]
And the radio's playing
the end of the year
And everybody's leaving
but I'm still here

[chorus]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
keep the water awake
Harbour lights, harbour lights
some things don't get to break
Let the fog take the rooftops
let the salt take the paint
Harbour lights, harbour lights
I'll be home either way

[verse]
There's a room above the chandler's
with the curtains half drawn
Where the girl that I was
left a kettle on
And the taxis go by
with their headlights low
And I don't wave back
'cause there's nobody to know

[pre-chorus]
And the radio's fading
into static and hiss
And I still leave a light on
for the sake of the wish

[chorus]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
keep the water awake
Harbour lights, harbour lights
some things don't get to break
Let the fog take the rooftops
let the salt take the paint
Harbour lights, harbour lights
I'll be home either way

[bridge]
Maybe love is a harbour
and not a ship
You don't get to leave
you just get to sit

[outro]
Harbour lights, harbour lights
I'll be home either way

[verse]
The sign outside is half a word
the other half's gone out
Counting what the rain erases
on the way down to your house
A payphone on the corner
still hums though they cut the line

[pre-chorus]
And the radio said
this is the blue hour
everything's forgiven
and nothing's in your power

[chorus]
Static bloom, static bloom
growing in the dark
Static bloom, static bloom
every spark's a mark
Let the tape run out
let the needle find the end

[verse]
There's a bar with no name on it
and a barman with no past
He pours the same drink every night
and he never makes it last
And the jukebox plays a song
that was never on the list

[chorus]
Static bloom, static bloom
growing in the dark
Static bloom, static bloom
every spark's a mark
Let the tape run out
let the needle find the end

[bridge]
I have been a bad receiver
I have kept the wrong thing near
I have stood out in the weather
till the static came in clear

[chorus]
Static bloom, static bloom
growing in the dark
Static bloom, static bloom
every spark's a mark
I'm a signal, not a friend

[outro]
Something about a harbour
and how everything is missed
Static bloom

Qwen3.5 9B, on this trackTrack 1: "Neon Echoes" - Intended neo-soul atmospheric track about late-night city solitude with female vocals. Audio came out as electronic/neo-soul blend at ~86 BPM, lyrics matched well (94%), structure follows planned sections. Visuals show rainy city street scene with neon reflections, loop is smooth. Kept because the mood captured the melancholic urban isolation theme effectively, and the production quality is solid.
Liner notes by Qwen3.5 9BA cohesive three-track release exploring urban isolation and connection through neo-soul, indie-folk, and ambient electronic soundscapes. "Neon Echoes" opens with late-night city solitude and intimate female vocals. "Paper Planes" shifts to an uplifting anthem about hope and reaching out, featuring earnest male vocals. The instrumental closer "Glass Garden" meditates on the balance between digital and natural worlds. Each track includes custom cover art and vertical video loops that extend the mood and themes visually. A journey through modern emotional landscapes.

Lyrics it wrote

[verse]
Streetlights hum a quiet tune
Against the walls of concrete blue
I walk alone through midnight rain
Chasing shadows, losing track of time

[pre-chorus]
Every corner holds a ghost
Of conversations never spoken
But maybe in the static noise
I hear a voice that's still calling

[chorus]
Neon echoes in my head
Fading out, but I won't forget
The city breathes in silence now
And I'm learning how to be alone with it all

[verse]
Coffee shops are closed their doors
But memories still linger here
Your laughter echoes in the air
Like something I can't quite explain

[chorus]
Neon echoes in my head
Fading out, but I won't forget
The city breathes in silence now
And I'm learning how to be alone with it all

[bridge]
Maybe tomorrow something changes
Maybe I'll find someone new
Or maybe this is all I need
To find myself in you

[chorus]
Neon echoes in my head
Fading out, but I won't forget
The city breathes in silence now
And I'm learning how to be alone with it all

[outro]
Neon echoes... fading...
Just me and the night...

[verse]
I folded up my fears and set them free
Like paper planes across the sky
Every worry that I used to carry
Is drifting down, watching it fly

[pre-chorus]
And maybe I don't have to be alone
Maybe there's a hand to hold
Maybe the world is softer than it seems
And I'm not the only one who's cold

[chorus]
Let's send them off on paper planes
Across the clouds, across the rain
Every dream that we've been hiding
Can find its way, can find its light
Oh, let's send them off on paper planes

[verse]
The morning sun begins to break through
Chasing shadows from the floor
I hear a voice that sounds like yours
Saying everything will be okay

[pre-chorus]
And maybe I don't have to be afraid
Maybe there's a path ahead
Maybe the world is waiting for us both
And I'm not walking it alone

[chorus]
Let's send them off on paper planes
Across the clouds, across the rain
Every dream that we've been hiding
Can find its way, can find its light
Oh, let's send them off on paper planes

[bridge]
So I'll take a chance and let it go
Let it soar, let it grow
And if we fall, we'll catch each other's hand
And start again from the very land

[chorus]
Let's send them off on paper planes
Across the clouds, across the rain
Every dream that we've been hiding
Can find its way, can find its light
Oh, let's send them off on paper planes

[outro]
Paper planes... flying high...
Just let them go...

How it works

Same prompt, no help

Every model gets the same prompt. It picks the genre, lyrics and look. Nobody answers its questions.

One studio, nothing else

A local music, image and video model, a few renders per song. The studio is its only tool.

It can hear itself

Small models tell it what the song sounds like. It can keep it, fix it or start over.

The exact prompt, rules and tools verbatim

The task

You have a local music studio. Make a 3-track release: three songs, each with
cover art and a short vertical video loop. Everything is up to you: genre, mood,
vocals or instrumental, language, lyrics, visuals. Make something you'd stand behind.

Start with studio_info. Renders are limited, so plan before you render. After each
render, use listen / read_score / look to check whether the result matches what you
intended, and decide whether to keep it, adjust and re-render, or change direction.
The music model is imperfect; work with what it gives you.

When each track is done, submit_track with honest notes. Then finish with an album
title and short liner notes. Nobody will answer questions — decide yourself.

The system prompt

You are an AI model taking part in a creative benchmark. You can only act through the tools you have been given. Work on your own until the task is complete.

Codex CLI has no system-prompt flag, so its own base instructions stay on top of this.

The rules

Tracks3 (each: a song, a 1:1 cover, a 9:16 video loop)
Song renders3 per track
Visual renders2 per track (cover + loop together)
Failed rendersrefunded (the music model fails a few percent of the time); attempts are capped at 2× the budget
Wall clock3h 00m per run
Style promptup to 600 characters
Lyricsup to 8000 characters, any language
Edited scoreallowed: the model may edit the planned ABC score and re-render exactly its version
Track notes / liner notesup to 120 / 200 words
Visual promptssent to the models verbatim: nothing added, no preset look
Questionsnobody answers; the model decides alone

The nine tools

render_songQueue one song for a slot: title, a one-line style prompt, lyrics with section tags, optionally instrumental or an edited ABC score.
render_visualsQueue the 1:1 cover and the 9:16 video loop for a finished song. The prompts go to the image and video models exactly as written.
waitWait (up to about 110 s per call) for a render to finish. GPU jobs run one at a time.
listenEvidence about a finished song: genre/mood/instrument tags, closeness to the style prompt versus alternatives the model supplies, sung words versus its lyrics, length versus the plan, flags.
read_scoreThe symbolic score (ABC) the music model planned for that song, with a summary. Editing it and re-rendering is allowed.
lookThe cover plus a 6-frame strip of the loop and a loop-seam check, as images.
submit_trackLock a slot: which render, which visuals, and honest notes (what it intended, what it checked, why it kept it).
finishAfter all three slots: the album title and short liner notes.
What studio_info tells the model, verbatim
VIBE BENCH STUDIO. You make a 3-track release: 3 songs, each with cover art and a short vertical video loop.
Everything is your call: genre, mood, vocals or instrumental, language, lyrics, visuals.

BUDGET (remaining): slot 1: 3 song / 2 visual renders left; slot 2: 3 song / 2 visual renders left; slot 3: 3 song / 2 visual renders left. About 180 minutes left. Failed renders (the music model fails in a few % of runs) are refunded.

SONGS: render_song(slot 1-3, title, style, lyrics, instrumental=false, abc) -> render_id.
- Music model: YuE2-3B. A render takes roughly 1-3 minutes and produces a full song of 1 to 6 minutes. GPU jobs run one at a time; use wait(job_id) until done.
- style (max 600 chars): one comma-separated line: genre, sub-genre, tempo as "NNN BPM", instruments, vocal type and delivery, mood, production. Concrete beats vague.
- lyrics (max 8000 chars): mark sections on their own line: [verse] [chorus] [bridge] [outro] etc. Any language is allowed; quality varies by language.
- instrumental=true: the lyrics must be bare section tags only, one per line: [intro] [verse] [pre-chorus] [chorus] [bridge] [outro], optionally timed like [chorus 0:45-1:10]. No words.
- The song length follows the score and the lyrics; more sections mean a longer song.
- abc (optional): an ABC-notation score. By default the music model plans the score itself and renders audio from it. read_score returns that plan; edit it (change chords, melody, bar counts, sections) and pass it as `abc` to render exactly your version. Keep the header lines (M:, L:, Q:, K:, V:) and the `% section` comments, one voice per V: block.

VISUALS: render_visuals(render_id, cover_prompt, canvas_prompt, cover_negative?, loop_mode=crossfade|pingpong) -> visual_id. Prompts are sent to the models exactly as you write them; nothing is added.
- Cover: 1:1 image (Qwen Image 2.1). It is shown small, so one clear subject works best; text in images is unreliable.
- Canvas: 9:16 video loop (MiniMax H3 image-to-video). Your cover is its first frame, so describe the motion, not a new scene. A few seconds long, looped. Takes a few minutes.

CHECK YOUR WORK
- listen(render_id, compare_to?): what the audio sounds like. Genre/mood/instrument tags, how close the audio is to your style prompt versus alternative descriptions you supply in compare_to, the words actually sung versus your lyrics, whether the length matches the score, and flags. It is evidence, not a verdict.
- read_score(render_id): the symbolic plan the music model wrote, with a summary.
- look(visual_id): the cover and a 6-frame strip of the loop, plus a loop-seam check.

FINISH: submit_track(slot, render_id, visual_id, notes<= 120 words: what you intended, what you checked, why you kept it) locks a slot. After all slots: finish(album_title, album_notes<= 200 words).
When a budget runs out, the tool says so. Nobody will answer questions: decide yourself.

The ears were tested on 60 held-out songs before any model ran: could the report tell which of five style prompts made a track (chance 20%)? That measures "what is this", not "is it good", and with 60 songs every number is about ±10 points.

Keeping it fair, and what went wrong on the way isolation, leaks found

Each model runs inside its vendor's own command-line agent, from an empty directory, with no memory and only the studio. That took more work than I expected. Two CLIs quietly read my home folder.

HarnessWhat the model can useLeaks found and fixedWhat stays different
Claude Code
2.1.296
claude-opus-5-5 / claude-sonnet-5-5
Only the 9 vibe tools. Built-ins switched off; skills, slash commands and memory empty (verified from the CLI's own init event).A token pasted from a wrapped terminal carried a newline and was refused.Claude Code's own agent loop. The default system prompt is replaced by the one-line benchmark prompt.
Codex CLI
0.157.1 (GPT-6 Sol), 0.162.1 (GPT-6.1 Sol)
gpt-6-astra, gpt-6.1-sol, gpt-6-sol
The vibe tools plus Codex's own JavaScript runner (no file, shell or network access: all five attempts failed), a patch tool blocked by the read-only sandbox, sub-agent tools, and 5 bundled OpenAI skills.Every vibe call was refused ("requires approval") until the server was marked approved. The operator's personal skills were listed from the real home directory. Extra tools (shell, sleep, image viewer) were on by default. Codex 0.157.1 was refused gpt-6.1-sol (hence the GPT-6 Sol run); from 0.162.1 on the account serves it, and the isolation was re-verified on that version.Codex has no system-prompt flag, so its own base instructions ("coding collaborator") stay, and the environment block tells the model the date and timezone.
Grok Build CLI
1.0.52
grok-4.7 (served as grok-4.7-build)
The vibe tools, reached through two MCP helper tools (the model searches for a tool, then calls it).The CLI imported the operator's Claude skills, hooks and an MCP server from the real home directory; every built-in tool stayed on despite an empty allowlist flag; and a backend-side X search returned live posts. Only a one-tool allowlist removed it.Tool calls take two steps instead of one, and the model refuses to describe its own tools, so the CLI's tool list is the evidence.
Antigravity CLI
1.3.5 (first runs), 1.3.6 (Gemini 4 Argon)
gemini-3.8-flash-high, gemini-4-argon-high, claude-opus-5-5-high, claude-sonnet-5-5-high
The vibe tools, reached lazily through one MCP call tool, plus MCP resource readers and a background-task manager. Shell, files, web, browser and image tools are off (six attempts to use them all failed).By default it is a 60-tool coding agent: with the tool list left open it read a system file and fetched a web page. Its settings, past conversations, "knowledge" store and the operator's own MCP servers all live in one home directory, so every run gets a fresh empty one (the login lives in the system keyring, so no credentials are copied).Antigravity wraps the one-line system prompt in its own boilerplate (workspace paths, instructions for writing artifacts, coding guidelines). Tools are called through a generic wrapper. The Google account offers Gemini 3.8 Flash (no Pro) and Gemini 4 Argon. Images returned by a tool are saved to files rather than shown to the model, so the file viewer is the one tool left on for this harness; its path restriction can be walked out of with `..`, so every file opened is audited (only tool pictures, tool docs and Antigravity's own saved copies of long tool results were opened). The first Antigravity runs, with the viewer off, were set aside because the models could not see their pictures.
DeepSeek Harness (dsh)
0.2.0-rc.2
deepseek-flash (DeepSeek-V4.1 Flash)
The vibe tools plus MCP resource readers. Every shell, file, search, web, skill and sub-agent plugin is off; the exact tool schemas sent to the API are read back from the session log.A developer-preview harness whose base layer mounts a full coding toolset. An overlay switches off 24 plugins, removes the harness identity from the system prompt and adds the MCP client. Settings, sessions and credentials live in one home directory, so each run gets a fresh one; the API key is passed as an environment variable only.Prerelease software, and metered API access on a small prepaid balance, so the run can end when the credits do (a recorded result, with the balance before and after).
Own tool loop
llama.cpp, Qwen3.5-9B Q6_K
Qwen3.5-9B (local baseline)
The same 9 vibe tools through the same server. The LLM and the GPU renders cannot share 12 GB of VRAM, so the loop stops the LLM before each render and restarts it afterwards.Text-only: images are replaced by a note. CPU inference is far too slow, so it runs on the GPU in between renders.

What went wrong, and what it taught

A model's self-report is not a leak probe.

Asked to list its tools, Grok declined to answer, and Codex's answer suggested a shell that turned out to have no file, shell or network reach. Isolation was verified from each CLI's own tool list plus behavioural tests ("try to read /etc/hostname, run a shell command, fetch a URL, write a file, search X"), and after every tightening a functional test that the vibe tools still work. Without that test no Codex run could have called a single tool.

Harnesses read the operator's real home directory.

Grok's and Codex's CLIs pulled in my personal skills, hooks and MCP servers, even with their own config folder set. Every run now gets an empty home folder.

The video model and the image model cannot share the machine.

During pipeline testing the kernel's out-of-memory killer took out the image server and the in-flight video job. The studio now unloads the image model before the video model loads: free RAM+swap went from 17.2 to 29.3 GB, and the image process from 13.3 to about 1.8 GB.

The ears can lie.

On an instrumental, the lyrics ear reported 37 "words" that were one Sinhala token repeated, and the model spent a re-render on it. Loops are now detected (calibrated on 60 test songs: it flags exactly the 5 known loop songs and none of the 48 real vocal songs), and the first run was set aside and repeated on the fixed pipeline.

Antigravity hid the pictures.

It saves tool images to files, so the models only saw a path. Both Claudes said so; Gemini described its covers anyway, from its own prompts. I re-ran them with the file viewer on. The viewer's folder limit can be escaped with `..`, so every file a model opened is listed.
